Discovering the world of sports prototypes with the Ligier JS P3
The United Autosports team was founded by Zak Brown and Richard Dean in 2009. It began its career by entering a wide range of cars in different championships in which it racked up its first wins before turning to the LM P3 category in 2016.
The Anglo-American team made its debut in sports prototype racing by entering two Ligier JS P3s in the hotly-contested European Le Mans Series as well as the first Road to Le Mans, its first step on the way to the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours in which it would put on a brilliant performance the following year.
Two European titles with the Ligier JS P3
Success wasn't long in coming for United Autosports, and on its first outing the team scored a double with the #2 and #3 Ligier JS P3s in the Silverstone 4 Hours. At the end of the season during which it scored six podiums including three victories, the team clinched the 2016 LM P3 title in the European Le Mans Series.
It repeated this feat in 2017 winning its second ELMS LM P3 title on the bounce. In addition, its LM P3 entered for the Road to Le Mans and the Michelin Le Mans Cup as well as the British LM P3 series, the Henderson Insurance Brokers LM P3 Cup Championship, met with success.
Wins with the Ligier JS P217
Riding on the momentum generated by their first ELMS LM P3 title in 2016, United Autosports continued their involvement in sports prototypes. At the same time as its Ligier JS P3s in LM P3 went on to clinch its second title, the team entered a Ligier JS P217 in the LM P2 category.
Once again the collaboration bore fruit as the team emerged victorious in the Silverstone and Red Bull Ring 4-Hour races, which helped it to second place in the ELMS general classification. In 2017, the team also finished fourth in the LM P2 category in the Le Mans 24 Hours on its first outing in the event.
Official Onroak Automotive distributor in Great Britain
In April 2016, the French manufacturer and the team based in Leeds in West Yorkshire reinforced their links even further and announced another step in their collaboration. In what was a continuation of mutual confidence United Autosports became the official Onroak Automotive distributor of the manufacturer's Ligier CNs and LM P3s in Great Britain.
The adventure continues in 2018
New projects are going to enrich the on-going collaboration between United Autosports and Onroak Automotive even further. This year Zak Brown and Richard Dean's team will still be racing on European circuits with their Ligier JS P3s and Ligier JS P217s. In addition, the Anglo-American outfit has launched a programme in the United States with an entry for the four races making up the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup.
