Asian Le Mans Series, Championship Finale: A Tense Last Race
The sixth and final round of the 2024/25 Asian Le Mans Series concluded on Sunday, February 16, 2025, with a dramatic race in Abu Dhabi. In LMP3, the Ligier JS P320 #49 of High Class Racing took victory, while Bretton Racing secured the championship title. Jens Reno Møller and Theodor Jensen claimed the drivers' title with the support of Griffin Peebles, who joined the team for the last four races.
A Chaotic Start
Right from the first corner, the race was marked by a multi-car incident, bringing out the safety car. A red flag was then deployed to allow repairs to the barriers after an accident involving a Lamborghini. After a 30-minute interruption, the race resumed with the clock reset to ensure a full four-hour competition.
Strategy and Pit Stop Management
Several Virtual Safety Car periods punctuated the race, and LMP3 teams took advantage of them to complete their mandatory pit stops. Strategic decisions proved crucial in the battle for victory.
High Class Racing gained the upper hand late in the race with its Ligier JS P320 #49, driven by Anders Fjordbach. Behind, the #15 of RLR MSport and the #26 of Bretton Racing fought fiercely, all three having opted for similar strategies by anticipating their pit stops.
In the final laps, Anders Fjordbach was running on fumes, but the Danish driver managed to hold on to the lead, crossing the finish line ahead of the Ligier JS P320 #15 of RLR MSport, which needed a win to claim the title.
A Well-Earned Title for Bretton Racing
Bretton Racing finished third, securing the LMP3 title thanks to the podium finish of its Ligier JS P320 #26. Jens Reno Møller and Theodor Jensen, supported by Griffin Peebles in the final races, delivered a consistent and strong season. With this championship win, Bretton Racing etched its name in the Asian Le Mans Series LMP3 history. A remarkable achievement for the team founded in 2023, which had finished third in the championship last season in its debut LMP3 campaign with the Ligier JS P320.
RLR MSport finished runner-up, just 7 points behind Bretton Racing with 93 points. High Class Racing was third with 92 points and Ultimate in fourth position had the same number of points.
The End of the Ligier JS P320 Era in the Championship
Introduced in the 2020/2021 Asian Le Mans Series season, the Ligier JS P320 has dominated the LMP3 category, winning every championship title with five different teams: United Autosports in 2021, CD Sport in 2022, Graff Racing in 2023, COOL Racing in 2023/24, and Bretton Racing in 2024/25.
The Ligier JS P325, the third-generation Ligier LMP3, will make its debut in the championship in the 2025/26 season after its competitive introduction in ACO European championships (European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup) starting in April 2025.
