HSR: Clear victory for Wolf Motorsports at Road Atlanta
The second round of the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Prototype Challenge IMSA series took place on 27 April 2024 at Michelin Raceway Atlanta, Georgia, and saw the #25 Ligier JS P320 of James French and Alex Koreiba (Wolf Motorsports) claim victory after losing out on the opening round at Sebring.
- “Alex did a fantastic first stint and we timed a yellow right, so we got a nice cushion there”, stated James French, who had clinched pole position in 1:17.281. “It gave me a huge lead and the car was just an absolute joy to drive. It was just a matter of bringing it home in one piece and enjoying the ride”.
- “We are very happy to see the series growing, absolutely, there is a huge demand for a series like this. They are fantastic cars, super reliable, fast and great to learn in, so it is great to see it grow. We are hoping for even more competition and more teams joining in.” Five cars had competed in the previous race at Sebring, and ten were on track for this second round.
- The most serious threat came from the #37 JS P3 of Jon Field and Kenton Koch (One Motorsports), the Sebring winners. Back on the wheels of the #25, Field ran out of fuel. Having restarted several laps down, the team finally decided not to finish the race.
- With the overall victory James French and Alex Koreiba took the lead of the Pro/Am standings.
- Second-placed John Reisman was alone at the wheel of the #74 Hudson Historics Ligier JS P320, after team-mate Eric Curran fell ill earlier in the weekend. He battled with brothers Nigel and Josh Saurino, who were third in their #57 Ligier JS P3.
- The top 5 in this second round was completed by two Ligiers in the Am category. At the wheel of the #18 Performance Tech Motorsports JS P320, Jordan Menzin celebrated his sports prototype debut with a victory. He was followed by the #8 JS P3 of Timothy Day and Wyatt Foster.
- Winners of the Am category at Sebring, Tobias Lutke and Travis Hill (#22 Ligier JS P3, TWOth Autosport) finished third and moved to the top of the overall standings.
The next round of the IMSA HSR Prototype Challenge will take place on June 6-9, 2024 at Watkins Glen, New York.
