HSR Prototype Challenge: South American first at Road Atlanta

Ecuador's Escuderia Abro team won its first HSR Prototype Challenge championship at the fourth round held at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta from September 19 to 22, 2024. The 100% Latin American crew of Ecuadorian Miguel Villagomez and Colombian Oscar Tunjo drove the team's #23 Ligier JS P320 to victory.

- After a first visit last April for the second round of this inaugural season, the HSR Prototype Challenge once again visited Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, in the state of Georgia.

- For this fourth round of the 2024 season, the field was made up of nine Ligier prototypes: six Ligier JS P320s (Pro-Am category) and three Ligier JS P3s (Am category).

- Winners of the previous two rounds in the #25 Wolf Motorsports Ligier JS P320, James French and Alex Koreiba took pole position in 1:17.274.

- Miguel Willagomez and Oscar Tunjo won the race with the #23 Escuderia ABRO Ligier JS P320 by more than a minute, and rounded off their success with the fastest lap of the race (1:17.638).

- Miguel Villagomez was delighted to see Escuderia ABRO become the first Ecuadorian team to win a race and championship organized by IMSA, the governing body of endurance racing in the USA.

- James French and Alex Koreiba finished second in the #25 Wolf Motorsports Ligier JS P320.

- Jon Field, solo driver of the #37 One Motorsports car, completed the podium.

- Sixth at the finish in the #22 TWOth Motorsport Ligier JS P3, Tobias Lutke and Travis Hill scored their second Am win of the season, after setting the fastest time in qualifying (1:21.109). They remain at the top of the Am overall standings.

- James French and Alex Koreiba failed to claim a third consecutive victory, but thanks to their second-place finish, they remain overall leaders in the championship's standings.

From October 30 to November 3, the next meeting in the Historic Sportscar Racing series will take place at Daytona International Speedway, one of the most prestigious American circuits.
