IMSA VP Racing, Mid-Ohio: Two podium finishes for leaders MLT Motorsports and Steven Aghakhani

The fourth round of the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge took place on the Mid-Ohio road circuit from 7 to 9 June. At the wheel of the #6 MLT Motorsports JS P320, Steven Aghakhani finished second in both races and retains the provisional overall lead. Two other Ligier teams completed the two podiums: Escuderia Abro and Miguel Villagomez finished third in Race 1 with the #23 Ligier JS P320 and Ave Motorsports third in Race 2 with its #61 Ligier JS P320 driven by Seth Lucas.

 

Race 1: Double podium for MLT Motorsports and Escuderia Abro

- With two wins, a second place and a third, Steven Aghakhani and MLT Motorsports arrived at Mid-Ohio with a comfortable lead in the provisional standings.

- Steven Aghakhani crossed the line in second place at the wheel of the #6 MLT Motorsports Ligier JS P320. He set the fastest lap in Race 1, with a time of 1:17.307.

- He finished ahead of the #23 Escuderia Abro Ligier JS P320 and driver Miguel Villagomez, who came out third.

- Rick Ware Racing with Ave Motorsports took fourth position with the #51 Ligier JS P320 of Ryan Phinny, in front of the #61 Ave Motorsports Ligier JS P320 with Seth Lucas who was making his championship debut.

Race 2: Double podium for MLT Motorsports and Ave Motorsports

- Steven Aghakhani and MLT Motorsports once again finished second in their #6 Ligier JS P320.

- In his first weekend in the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge in the #61 Ave Motorsports JS P230, Seth Lucas claimed his first podium in Race 2.

- The #51 Ligier JS P320 of Ryan Phinny (Rick Ware Racing with Ave Motorsport) and the #7 Ligier JS P320 of Alex Kirby (Performance Tech Motorsports) completed the top five in Race 2 in fourth and fifth positions respectively.

- Steven Aghakhani and MLT Motorsports strengthened their lead in the championship (1910 points) while Miguel Villagomez and Escuderia Abro remains second with 1630 points.

The fifth round of the 2024 IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge will take place in Canada from 12 to 14 July at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
