Ligier Automotive at Hyvolution 2025: A First Participation Focused on Innovation and Renewable Energy
For the first time, Ligier Automotive will participate in Hyvolution, the leading hydrogen solutions trade show, taking place in Paris from January 28 to 30, 2025. The company will showcase the Ligier JS2 RH2, its first hydrogen-powered race car, at a booth shared with its strategic partner Bosch Engineering. This participation highlights Ligier Automotive's commitment to advancing renewable energy and sustainable mobility technologies.
The Ligier JS2 RH2: A Technological Showcase
Developed through a close collaboration between Ligier Automotive and Bosch Engineering, the Ligier JS2 RH2 embodies a future where performance and sustainability go hand in hand. First unveiled at the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, this unique race car participated in 2024 in the inaugural global hydrogen car demonstration lap on the Le Mans 24 Hours circuit, alongside vehicles such as the H24 and Alpenglow.
With over 5,000 kilometers of track testing and high-speed runs exceeding 280 km/h, the JS2 RH2 has proven its reliability and performance, covering distances comparable to those achieved by the winning teams at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in recent years.
Julien Jehanne, Director of the Amilly site specialising in concept cars and special vehicles, explains: “With the Ligier JS2 RH2, we demonstrated that we could integrate a hydrogen system into a race car in just over six months. Today, we continue to refine the system, particularly the hydrogen gas regulation system. This development, which involves gas pressure for injection into the internal combustion engine, will also benefit our work on liquid hydrogen solutions, which we are advancing in parallel.”
Hydrogen: A Strategic Focus for Ligier Automotive
Hydrogen is a key strategic development area for Ligier Automotive, which has established a dedicated division for hydrogen and new energy solutions. The company is exploring both gaseous and liquid hydrogen technologies.
Richard Tur, COO of Ligier Automotive, comments: “Our primary market remains series and competition cars. Today, hydrogen is mostly used in heavy industry. Therefore, we need to adapt existing solutions to mobility, making them lighter and more compact. At the same time, the integration work we've done so far allows us to expand our customer base.”
In addition to integrating hydrogen systems, Ligier Automotive is exploring the possibility of producing certain subsystems in-house. “Our dedicated new energy division is actively working on this, and our presence at Hyvolution is an opportunity to connect with other players in this energy transition,” adds Richard Tur.
A Dynamic Effort Supported by the Everspeed Group
Ligier Automotive's commitment to renewable energy is part of a broader strategy led by the Everspeed Group. Alongside Ligier Automotive, the Italian company HP Composites, specializing in composite materials, and the French company Ecodime, focused on mobility training, are actively contributing to the research and development of sustainable solutions.
Jacques Nicolet, President of the Everspeed Group, emphasizes: “As a group, we are fully committed to the energy transition. That's why we are leveraging our expertise to address the challenges of tomorrow. Each company in the group plays a crucial role: HP Composites designs and manufactures carbon chassis and shells as well as hydrogen-specific storage solutions, while Ecodime develops training programs focused on renewable energy use.”
