The Ligier JS2 RS Earns GT2 Homologation: Ligier Automotive Joins the GT2 European Series and SRO GT Academy.

The Ligier JS2 RS is now eligible for the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli — a major recognition for this radical GT and an important milestone in the history of the French brand, which becomes the first French manufacturer to enter the championship. At the same time, Ligier is also joining the SRO GT Academy, furthering its mission to support drivers on their path to the highest levels of motorsport.

A New French GT2 for the GT2 European Series

The latest addition to Ligier Automotive's GT lineup, the Ligier JS2 RS follows in the footsteps of the JS2 and JS2 R. Introduced during the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Ligier JS2's podium at the 1975 24 Hours of Le Mans, this new GT combines performance, reliability, and accessibility.

It is built on a specific FIA-homologated carbon monocoque, certified FIA EII SC and compliant with the 2025 LMP3 static tests, featuring a homologated roll cage and Zylon side protection. It is equipped with a front crash box, hydraulic power steering, and a Brembo steel braking system designed for 24-hour endurance racing. On the electronics side, the JS2 RS features a MoTeC ECU, Bosch ABS, and traction control.

Its 3.5L Ford EcoBoost V6 engine produces up to 650 horsepower for a weight of 1,150 kg (prior to BoP adjustments). It is paired with a SADEV SL 90-20 EVO gearbox. The package is wrapped in a sharp new aerodynamic design — carbon splitter, flat floor, diffuser — giving the car a muscular GT silhouette born for the track. Pricing starts at €259,000 before tax.

With its arrival in the GT2 European Series, the JS2 RS becomes the first French GT to join this internationally recognized category, alongside Audi, Ginetta, KTM, Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.

“Joining the GT2 European Series is a great recognition for our brand and for our new GT,” commented Jacques Nicolet, President of Ligier Automotive. “With the Ligier JS2 RS, we wanted to offer a real race car — radical yet easy to handle — with reasonable running costs. Entering GT2 Europe allows us to offer a new playground for the teams and drivers who trust us, and to attract new ones.”

Ligier Automotive Also Joins the SRO GT Academy to Support the Next Generation of Drivers.

Ligier Automotive becomes the fourth manufacturer to join SRO GT Academy, a programme dedicated to Silver drivers under 30 contesting the full 2026 GT2 European Series in Ligier, Ginetta, Maserati or Mercedes-AMG GT2 machinery. Based on individual performance criteria, the initiative aims to help young talents progress through the GT ranks.

The winner will receive a full-season programme in the 2027 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, including the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, along with continued support from SRO.

“Supporting drivers throughout their journey has always been a priority for us at Ligier Automotive,” explained Jacques Nicolet. “With our Ligier Junior Programme in endurance racing, we are already helping young talents take key steps forward. Joining the SRO GT Academy within the GT2 European Series is therefore a natural move for us — it's an opportunity to continue supporting the next generation in a structured and professional environment.”

“It is always fantastic to welcome a new manufacturer to one of our series, especially an iconic brand with such rich racing heritage as Ligier,” said Stéphane Ratel, SRO Motorsports Group founder and CEO.  “Having already competed with us in FFSA TC France, it is very encouraging that they will now join the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli, especially as part of the SRO GT Academy. This adds another option for teams and drivers wishing to be on the grid next year and compete for a significant opportunity in 2027.”

The 2026 GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli will kick off at Monza on May 30–31. A new chapter begins for the Ligier JS2 RS, marking another step in Ligier Automotive's commitment to strengthening its international presence and supporting drivers throughout their careers.
