New features for the Ligier JS Cup France in 2020: even more track time and pleasure all on slicks!
The Ligier JS Cup France, the first single-make formula dedicated to the Ligier JS2 R, has just revealed its calendar for 2020. On the programme is even more track time with three days' official testing, 3-hour free practice sessions per meeting and two new 6-hour races on the schedule of the seven events all on Hankook slick tyres! The second season looks like being even more exciting than the first!
The Ligier JS Cup France comprises a total of seven meetings on the most beautiful French circuits and on the iconic Spa-Francorchamps layout as a bonus. With an average of 27 Ligier JS2 Rs per meeting it promises even more endurance in 2020. The circuits are the same: Le Mans, Dijon, Spa-Francorchamps, Magny-Cours, Paul Ricard, Lédenon with Nogaro bringing down the curtain on the season.
“Why change?” asks Benoît Abdelatif from Max Mamers Management, the promoter of the Ligier JS Cup France. “We're lucky enough to race on the most beautiful French circuits and the cherry on the cake is a visit to the iconic Spa-Francorchamps track! Still, we've decided to provide even more track time for the teams and drivers with official 100% Ligier JS Cup France test days, 3-hour free practice sessions at each meeting and two races, Le Mans and Le Castellet, whose duration has been increased from 4 to 6 hours in the second season.”
The championship will kick off on the Le Mans circuit on 3-4 April 2020 with a 6-hour race. Then the teams will head to Dijon on 17-18 April for a 4-hour event followed by Spa-Francorchamps on 8-9 May with another 4-hour race and next up is a 6-hour combat at Magny-Cours on 5-7 June. After a well-deserved summer break there are three more races to come: 6 hours at Paul Ricard on 4-5 September, 3h30 at Lédenon on 25-26 September and the season will finish on a high note with an 8-hour event at Nogaro on 18-19 October!
Two or three drivers can share the car at each meeting and they will be able to enjoy 3-hour free practice and a 1h 30-minute minimum qualifying session. The meetings will be mainly packed into two days, Fridays and Saturdays.
And as a bonus, three days of exclusive testing are programmed on the Magny-Cours F1 circuit on 21st November 2019, 11th March and 17th June 2020.
Another novelty for 2020 is that the Ligier JS2 Rs will be shod with Hankook slick tyres. “We took the decision to change to slicks to give the teams who've put their trust in us even more pleasure,” explains Abdelatif. “Of course, the Ligier JS2 Rs will be even quicker, but that's not why we made this choice. The number of sets will be limited to keep the essence of the series, which is to offer the best pleasure-performance-price ratio possible in endurance.”
“We're delighted with the innovations brought in by Benoît for the second season of the Ligier JS Cup France,” sums up Jacques Nicolet, President of Ligier Automotive. “Enthusiasts are always looking for more track time at the meetings to maximum advantage and to share their passion. With an average of 10-hours track time spread over two days per meeting, it's a really fantastic programme!”
While awaiting the 2020 season, rendezvous on 18-19 October at Nogaro where the race will be run on slicks. Between 25 and 30 Ligier JS2 Rs are expected at this final round of the season.
