The #52 AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Ligier JS P217, first LM P2 at Mid-Ohio
This weekend on the Mid-Ohio track, the #52 AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Ligier JS P217 clinched the sixth place in the overall classification and finished first of the LM P2s. The #22 and 2 Tequila Patron ESM Nissan DPi crossed the finish line in 9th and 10th position.
For the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the teams were eager to rediscover the very technical Mid-Ohio track with its 13 turns on the 2.258 mile circuit. This was the first IMSA race at Mid-Ohio since 2013.
After free practices disrupted by stormy cloudbursts, the #52 Ligier JS P217, driven by Sebastian Saavedra and Gustavo Yacaman, claimed the 7th position in qualifying and emerged quickest in LM P2 on a dry track. The #22 and 2 Tequila Patron ESM Nissan DPi, respectively in the hands of Johannes van Overbeek/Pipo Derani and Scott Sharp/Ryan Dalziel started the race in 11th and 13th position.
The #52 Ligier JS P217 team ran an excellent race and saw the flag first in LM P2 and sixth in the prototype category, in front of the #99 JDC-Miller Motorsports ORECA 07. After having tangled with another car which damaged the diveplane, the #22 Nissan DPi finished 9th. The #2 Nissan DPi, which also suffered from a contact with another car during the race start, ended up 10th.
The next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will be held on 1-2 June 2018 on the Belle Isle Park raceway at Detroit.
