ALMS: COOL Racing wins the LMP3 championship title in Abu Dhabi!

9 - 11 February 2024 - This weekend, the last round of the Asian Le Mans Series took place on the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. With two races on the programme, the suspense lasted until the very end. The #2 CD Sport Ligier JS P320 sealed victory in race 1 ahead of COOL Racing's #17 and #20 run by High Class Racing. But the cards were reshuffled in race 2 as Bretton Racing's #20 crossed the finishing line in first place ahead of COOL Racing and CD Sport. Finally, COOL Racing became the 2023-24 ALMS season's reigning LMP3 champion by a tiny 3-point margin!

• Friday 9th February, the #17 COOL Racing Ligier JS P320 (James Winslow, Alex Bukantsov and Manuel Espirito-Santo) set the fastest time in free practice 1 in 1:48.700s.

• Later on in the day, the #2 JS P320 entered by CD Sport (Michael Jensen, Nick Adcock and Fabien Lavergne) topped the time sheets in free practice 2 in 1:49.318s.

• The next day, COOL Racing's #17 took pole position for race 1 in a time of 1m 48.499s. It also clinched the second fastest time in 1:48.618s again bagging the no. 1 spot for the second race of the weekend ahead of the other LMP3s.

Race 1:

  • The start of the first race was given on Saturday 11th February. While #17 run by COOL Racing dominated for most of the race, a very well executed pit stop allowed CD Sport's #2 to snatch victory, its second of the season! COOL Racing's #17 saw the flag in second place in front of #20 entered by High Class Racing (Audunn Gudmundsson, Anders Fjordbach and Seth Lucas).

Race 2:

• The season's finale took place the following day, Sunday 12th February. The tension was at its height, because CD Sport and COOL Racing were playing a game of musical chairs in the provisional championship classification!

• But neither COOL Racing nor CD Sport was destined to clinch the last victory of the season! This honour went to Bretton Racing and its #26 Ligier JS P320 (Mihnea Stefan, Julien Gerbi and Dan Skocdopole ). However, #17's crew climbed onto the second step of the podium ahead of #2 allowing the COOL Racing team to score  enough points to regain the advantage in the championship.

With 104 points, COOL Racing's #17 won the LMP3 Champion title in the 2023-2024 Asian Le Mans Series with just three points in hand over CD Sport's #2   (101 points)!
