Double podiums for the ESM Ligier JS P3s in the IMSA Prototype Challenge
This weekend, 12 Ligier JS P3s took part in the fourth round of the IMSA Prototype Challenge on the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park circuit.
After a victory at Sebring and a podium finish at Barber, the #7 Ligier JS P3 entered by Charles Wicht Racing set pole position in Canada.
The Extreme Speed Motorsports team, which had already scored two podium finishes, a pole position and a victory, clinched second and third places this weekend with their #30 and #3 Ligier JS P3s behind the Norma M30 run by Forty 7 Motorsports. The #30 Ligier JS P3 driven by Yann Clairay set the fastest lap in the race.
The Canadian circuit also hosted the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix, 7th round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which was a rather low-key race for the Onroak Automotive sports prototypes.
The #52 Ligier JS P217 entered by AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports started in seventh place on the grid and saw the flag in ninth spot after 2 hours and 40 minutes racing. The #22 Nissan DPi, the only Tequila Patron ESM DPi entered for the event, failed to finish due to a technical problem.
The next challenge awaiting the Ligier JS P217s and Nissan DPis in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is on 3-5 August on the Road America circuit at Elkhart Lake, while the Ligier JS P3s in the IMSA Prototype Challenge will join battle again on the Virginia International Raceway on 17 - 19 August.
