Ligier JS2 RS to make its GT2 European Series debut with High Class Racing at Portimão

The Ligier JS2 RS will make its GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli debut during the 2026 season finale at Portimão, from October 15 to 18. High Class Racing will enter the French GT in the Pro-Am category with Anders Fjordbach and Audunn Gudmundsson at the wheel. The event marks a new step for the Ligier JS2 RS, powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo Ford EcoBoost V6 producing up to 650 horsepower, subject to Balance of Performance.

A new chapter with High Class Racing

Already a regular Ligier Automotive customer in LMP3 competition, High Class Racing is now expanding its relationship with the French manufacturer into GT racing. The Danish team will return to the GT2 European Series for the first time since 2022 and use the Portimão finale to evaluate the Ligier JS2 RS against the established GT2 field.

Anders Fjordbach returns to a championship where he claimed the Pro-Am title in 2021. He will share the car with Audunn Gudmundsson, who has already raced with High Class Racing in LMP3 and brings experience from both prototype and GT competition.

“It is great to return to the GT2 European Series, particularly with High Class Racing and Ligier. This is a championship that holds very good memories for me, but we are approaching Portimão with a completely new car and a clear focus on learning as much as possible.

“The Ligier JS2 RS is an exciting new project, and this weekend will give us an important first indication of its potential against the established GT2 manufacturers.” — Anders Fjordbach

A first benchmark in GT2 competition

For High Class Racing, the Portimão weekend will provide an opportunity to build an initial technical and operational benchmark for the Ligier JS2 RS in GT2 competition.

“Our aim is to work methodically, improve in every session and show what the car and the team are capable of. I am really looking forward to getting started in Portimão,” said Audunn Gudmundsson.

The team is approaching the event as a one-round program, while also using the season finale to assess the potential for a future full-season GT2 European Series campaign.

Two races to conclude the season

The Portimão weekend will begin with the official GT2 test session on Thursday, October 15, followed by free practice on Friday and Saturday. Qualifying will take place on Saturday, before both 50-minute GT2 European Series races on Sunday, October 18.

With its arrival on the GT2 European Series grid, the Ligier JS2 RS opens a new chapter in its competition program and gives Ligier Automotive another opportunity to demonstrate the car's potential against established GT manufacturers.
