Pole position, downpour and safety cars for the first round of the 2018 V de V Endurance Series

V de V Endurance Series – round 1, Barcelona – 24-03-2018

The opening round of the 2018 V de V Endurance Series scheduled on the Barcelona circuit on 24th March should have taken place in spring conditions – it was far from being the case! The drivers raced in pouring rain throughout.

The #4 and #94 Ligier JS P3s entered by Cool Racing and Team Virage locked out the front row of the grid in qualifying. The race began behind the safety car because the track conditions were so bad it was impossible to guarantee adequate safety for a normal starting procedure.

The neutralisation lasted the whole race. A second safety car had to be deployed after the first one ran into technical problems! The drivers had to cope with the difficult conditions for over three hours and they covered 75% of the duration of the race so full points were awarded for the overall classification.

In such conditions the teams couldn't put real race strategies into effect.

LM P3 classification:

1- #77 Ligier JS P3 – Graff

2- #22 Ligier JS P3 – Inter Europol Competition

3- #39 Norma M30 – Graff

The next round of the V de V Endurance Series will take place at Magny-Cours on 20-22 April.
