The Ligier JS P2 Returns to the Track with the Legends of Le Mans Series
The new Legends of Le Mans Series, unveiled during Le Mans Classic 2025, is shaping up to be one of the highlights of the 2026 season. Designed to revive the golden era of modern endurance racing, the series will bring together iconic LMP1, LMP2, and GTE cars from the 2000s to the 2020s across four prestigious events: Imola, Spa-Francorchamps, Bahrain, and Le Mans Classic.
Among the ten prototypes on display to promote the series, fans were able to rediscover an icon: Ligier JS P2 chassis #1, showcased in a revival livery inspired by the historic Ligier Formula 1 cars.
A Legendary Race Car
The first car developed after Jacques Nicolet took over the Ligier brand, the Ligier JS P2 marks a major milestone in the company's modern history. Rolled out of the workshops in 2014, this LMP2 was homologated by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest from 2014 to 2016 for competition in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), European Le Mans Series, and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WSCC).
Right from the start, it made a statement: pole position and second place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in its debut year, 2014. In 2015, it claimed the FIA WEC LMP2 title. Then came 2016, and a place in the history books: Ligier became the first French manufacturer to win the 24 Hours of Daytona overall, and went on to complete a historic treble with overall victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans—a feat not seen since Ferrari in 1998.

The Ligier JS P2 took its final bow in the 2018–2019 Asian Le Mans Series, where it secured one last LMP2 title. Today, these prototypes are considered true historic race cars, meticulously restored by Ligier Automotive's Classic Department, alongside other models like the Ligier JS2, Ligier JS P3, Martini, Pescarolo, and Morgan.
“The Ligier JS P2 represents the rebirth of the brand. It marked our return to the top and paved the way for a new era of success for Ligier.”
– Jacques Nicolet, President of Ligier Automotive
