Ultimate Cup European Series: Second place for the #68 Ligier JS2 RS at Spa-Francorchamps
On September 19-20, 2026, two Ligier JS2 RSs entered by M Racing took part in the Ultimate Cup European Series round at Spa-Francorchamps. Starting second on the grid, the #68 M Racing Ligier JS2 RS of Jean-Christophe David, Jacques Nicolet and Yvan Muller also finished second in a rain-soaked race and set the fastest lap in 2:36.962. After claiming its first overall victory at Mugello in July, the Ligier JS2 RS once again confirmed its potential in very different conditions.

On a dry track, Jean-Christophe David, Jacques Nicolet and Yvan Muller each took part in their respective qualifying sessions at the wheel of the #68 M Racing Ligier JS2 RS. For Jacques Nicolet, it was his first competitive outing in the car.
The average of the crew's three best lap times placed the #68 second on the grid, putting M Racing at the sharp end ahead of a race that would be held in completely different conditions.
Second place and fastest lap in the rain
The following day, conditions were radically different. On a soaking wet track, the #68 M Racing Ligier JS2 RS stayed in touch with the leaders and remained in contention for victory.
A restart after a Full Course Yellow, however, complicated the crew's race. A small mistake resulted in a one-second stop-and-go penalty and cost valuable time. Despite that setback, Jean-Christophe David, Jacques Nicolet and Yvan Muller brought the #68 home in second place.
The crew also set the fastest lap of the race in 2:36.962. Without the penalty, the #68 M Racing Ligier JS2 RS could have challenged for a second victory this season, following its first overall win at Mugello in July (READ MORE).
A convincing first outing for Jacques Nicolet
For Jacques Nicolet, President of Ligier Automotive, the Spa-Francorchamps round marked his first race at the wheel of the Ligier JS2 RS.
“It was the first time I had driven the car. Despite the difficult weather conditions, it was very easy to drive and I really enjoyed it. It is very comfortable. I had never driven with ABS and traction control before, so it took me a little time to adapt, but I have to admit that both make the car much easier to drive, especially for gentlemen drivers.”
With this second-place finish and fastest lap, the Ligier JS2 RS continues to make progress in competition and confirms its ability to perform in very different track conditions.
