Upgrades for the Ligier JS P4 and Ligier JS2 R in 2022

With the end of the racing season fast approaching, this is an opportunity for Ligier Automotive to present upgrades to two of its models, the Ligier JS P4 sport prototype and Ligier JS2 R GT. These upgrades focus on the engine and brakes to improve the performance of the two cars. The Ligier JS2 R will also receive improved aerodynamics. While these modifications are now standard on the new production models, a kit is available for models from previous years. Mandatory in the two Ligier single-make series, the Ligier JS Cup France and the Ligier European Series, the new versions are eligible in the other competitions that feature these models. No doubt it will spice up the 2022 season.

The Ligier JS P4 sport prototype and Ligier JS2 R GT were introduced in 2018 and 2019. The French carmaker designed genuine and accessible race cars both in terms of driving and budget for up and coming drivers who want to enter endurance racing or gentlemen drivers looking for the best cost/ speed /pleasure package.

After several years of good and loyal service in their initial configuration, these two models will evolve while retaining their DNA. "The idea was not to redesign everything," explains Jacques Nicolet, President of Ligier Automotive. "But simply to offer the drivers developments to increase comfort, driving pleasure and overall performance."

More horsepower for the Ligier JS P4

Ligier Automotive is offering more power for the Ligier JS P4 sport prototype. The 3.7-litre Ford V6 engine will have an extra 55 horsepower from 330 to 385. That is enough to propel the car into a new dimension. To accompany this engine evolution, it will have the same brakes as its sister car, the LMP3 Ligier JS P320. With increased power, new brakes and an all-carbon monocoque and bodywork, the Ligier JS P4 affirms its position in the LMP pyramid, just below the LMP3, LMP2 and now Hypercar categories.

A racier Ligier JS2 R

More power for the Ligier JS2 R as well, with the Ford 3.7-litre V6 engine increasing from 330 to 350 horsepower. New brake pads and improved aerodynamics increase driving comfort and performance. A new, LMP3-style rear wing enhances the racing look of the brand's small GT while upgrading its performance.

Mandatory upgrades for the Ligier single-brand series

At the same time as these two models, Ligier Automotive launched single-make series in 2019 and 2020. In particular, the Ligier JS Cup France, reserved for the Ligier JS2 R, and the Ligier European Series, which combines the Ligier JS2 R and Ligier JS P4 at the same meetings with the European Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup. In their new configuration, the Ligier JS2 R and Ligier JS P4 will be the only models eligible for these two single-make championships from 2022.

“We discussed these changes at length with the organisers of our single-make series, in addition to the teams and drivers," said Jacques Nicolet. “In 2022, the Ligier JS Cup France will enter its fourth season with more than 20 entries per meeting. Adding a little more power with more aerodynamics, whilst revamping the look of the Ligier JS2 R, is a terrific response to the drivers' expectations for a little bit of innovation.

"For the Ligier European Series, at the penultimate round of the season at Spa-Francorchamps, we announced the calendar for the 2022 season with a very nice surprise for the enthusiasts: a round next June on the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit! With the upgrades made to the Ligier JS2 R and the Ligier JS P4, the experience will be even more memorable."
