A new playing field: Ligier launches the Ligier JS P4 Ultimate Challenge
After the Ligier JS Cup France, a Ligier JS2 R-dedicated cup, Ligier partners with the Ultimate Cup Series and launches the Ligier JS P4 Ultimate Challenge. Fully dedicated to the Ligier JS P4 – the latest 2018 sports prototype of the make – this series is ideal to start experiencing endurance races behind the wheel of a sports prototype.
With its Ligier JS P2 and Ligier JS P217 already in the LM P2 category and the Ligier JS P3 in the LM P3 category, Ligier does not stop there and introduces the Ligier JS P4, its latest sports prototype launched in 2018 in line with the FIA Free Formula regulations. Accessible to all types of drivers, the Ligier JS P4 is perfect to discover how to drive and operate sports prototypes.
With its closed cockpit and carbon monocoque respecting the LM P3 safety regulations, the Ligier JS P4 is equipped with a Ford V6 3.7 litre engine, producing 330 horsepower, a 6-speed gearbox with steering wheel paddle-shift system, a centrifugal clutch, an optimised driver and cockpit ventilation and a two-seater cockpit suitable for all drivers, even the tallest ones. This new car has been designed to offer pleasure, comfort and safety to its driver.
“We drew upon the Ligier JS P2 and JS P3 to conceive the Ligier JS P4. It has the same philosophy: performance and reliability” explains Jacques Nicolet, Ligier-Onroak Automotive President. “But we wanted this sports prototype to be even easier-to-drive and more accessible so that the drivers could enjoy driving it from the very first endurance races or track days. It also has a futuristic look and more aggressive lines than the others, with low running costs - on average, 40% less expensive than an LM P3 car”.
In 2019, the Ligier JS P4, which is already eligible to race in different championships, will experience the Ligier JS P4 Ultimate Challenge new playing field. This new Ligier JS P4 fully dedicated challenge will be held during the Ultimate Cup Series, a new rising championship organised by Vincent Vigier. “We are glad to partner with Ultimate Cup Series and Vincent Vigier teams to make this new Ligier championship become reality. It is a very promising championship”, states Jacques Nicolet.
“We are pleased to have this new Ligier JS P4 category for the launch of the Ultimate Cup Series. With this partnership, the winner won't be disappointed: he/she will receive great rewards”, points out Vincent Vigier, Promoter of the Ultimate Cup Series.
The Ligier JS P4 will be allowed on the track within the championship Prototype category and will be running with LM P3 sportscars. The Ligier JS P4 Ultimate Challenge will be held during the 4 last races of the championship in fine weather. Two of them will be competed in Europe and the two others in France. Mugello - 28-30 June - will be the first one, then road to Valencia on 27-29 September and Magny-Cours on 18-20 October. Finally, off to Castellet on the Paul Ricard circuit on 1-3 November to run the last race.
The Ligier JS P4 Ultimate Challenge winner will be offered a participation in the 2020 Ligier JS P4 Ultimate Challenge and in the 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi. “We aim at helping the winning team to continue to get involved and progressing within the Ultimate Cup Series and to offer them a chance to visit and experience a more exotic destination, the 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi”, claims Jacques Nicolet. “A lot of fun on 2019 and 2020 agendas!”
