FR Americas: The TJ Speed Motorsports drivers crush their rivals in Virginia!

7 - 9 October 2022 – The fifth round of the FR Americas Championship on the VIRginia International Raceway in the United States saw another successful weekend for TJ Speed Motorsports. The Australian team scored a clean sweep with victory in all the races thanks to Jason Alder in #77 (race 1) and Raoul Hyman in #27 (races 2 and 3).

On Friday 7th October, the championship leader Raoul Hyman (#27 TJ Speed Motorsports) topped the time sheets in free practice with a time of 1:45.221s. In the afternoon, he clinched pole position for the first race by setting the quickest lap in 1:44.720s.

Race 1: Jason Alder scores his second victory of the season

On Saturday morning the race got off to a great start for the Ligier JS F3s. The #27 Ligier JS F3 tagged another car in the first corner losing the lead and letting Jason Alder in #77 run by TJ Speed Motorsports into first place. He was then passed by Mac Clark at the wheel of #25 entered by Future Star Racing. Fifteen minutes before the end of the race the Canadian's car lost a wheel letting Alder back into a lead which he held to the chequered flag scoring his second win this season.

“I knew that the conditions this morning would be quite difficult with the track being so cool,” said Jason Alder after climbing from his car. “Overall, I'm super happy with the result. Our car strategy is looking great for the rest of the weekend.”

Race 2: Raoul Hyman clinches win no. 8!

Although Raoul Hyman (#27) didn't finish the first heat he set the fastest lap giving him pole for the second one. When the lights went out he held on to first place with Mac Clark in the #25 Ligier JS F3 glued to his gearbox. Hyman managed to open up a gap and crossed the finishing line with almost five seconds in hand over his rivals clinching his eighth victory of the season!

“The race this morning was really disappointing,” said Raoul Hyman after the race. “I'm really glad that we were able to bounce back to take the win and fastest lap, as well.”

Race 3: Raoul Hyman on the topmost step of the podium again!

Hyman stretched his lead in the championship even further by winning his ninth race of the season.  The driver in the #27 Ligier JS F3 dominated the last event of the weekend from start to finish after a great battle early on with Dylan Tavella in #14 entered by Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport.

“That was tough,” said Raoul Hyman. “I locked it up into Turn 13 on the first lap. We really struggled for tire temperature—even yesterday during the first laps. I knew if I could get it done on the first lap and hold position, that we would have the pace of the car to go through the rest of the race.”
