F4 U.S. : A successful weekend for Noel Leon and Mac Clark
June 25 - 27, 2021 - The 27 Ligier JS F4s gathered at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the third meeting of the F4 U.S. Championship, which already marks the halfway point of the season. Noel Leon (DEForce Racing) won the first two races and Mac Clark (Gonella Racing) added another win to his tally by winning the third race.
Mac Clark (#26 Gonella Racing) dominated the free practice session on Friday 25 June in his Ligier JS F4. He set the fastest lap on track in 1:28.047s. As in the FR Americas Championship, bad weather prevented the drivers from taking part in the qualifying session. The starting grid was determined according to the championship standings, so it was the leader, Noel Leon (#19 DEForce Racing), who started from pole position the following day for race 1.
Already victorious in the first round of the championship, Noel Leon won the first race of the weekend. It was a very eventful race with two yellow flags and a red flag were brought out. The race was interrupted in order to extract two competitors who went off the track. "The team gave me a great car," said Noel Leon, “This sets the tone for the weekend and we are excited to extend our points lead."
The driver continued his winning ways the following day in race 2. After a yellow flag and a battle with Mac Clark (#26 Gonella Racing), Noel Leon regained the lead five minutes before the finish line and took his third win since the season opener.
But Mac Clark, the driver of the #26 Ligier JS F4, was far from defeated and he made that clear in the third and final race of the weekend. At the halfway point, he got the better of Noel Leon. Despite a yellow flag, he retained the lead after the restart and took his third win of the season.
The next U.S. F4 Championship meeting will be held at the Brainerd International Raceway on July 16-18.
