Ligier Automotive North America is showcasing its Ligier JS F3 and JS F4 open wheel race cars and the new Ligier JS2 R at the SCCA 2019 Runoffs
Ligier Automotive North America will be displaying its latest Ligier JS F3 and JS F4 open wheelers at the SCCA National Championships Runoffs held at VIRginia International Raceway on October 8-13, 2019 as well as debuting the Ligier JS2 R, the make's GT, in North America. What's more, a couple of Ligier will compete in the Runoffs.
Ligier Automotive will be represented both in the Vendor Row and on the track. It will showcase three of its racing cars in the Vendor Row, located right beside the Hankook Tire Tent. Ligier's two open wheelers, the Ligier JS F3 and the Ligier JS F4, the exclusive chassis of the F3 Americas and the F4 U.S. Championship will be on display. In 2019, around 38 Ligier JS F3s and Ligier JS F4s have been in competition in these championships. Also on display for the first time in North America, the brand's latest GT, the Ligier JS2 R.
Launched to celebrate the make's 50th anniversary in 2019, the Ligier JS2 R has already spawned two single-make series in Europe. Almost 30 Ligier JS2 Rs are in competition in the 2019 Ligier JS Cup France single-type series and additional cars are expected to take part in the Ligier European Series in 2020, a brand-new series reserved to the Ligier JS2 R and the Ligier JS P4 sports-prototype. It was time for the Ligier JS2 R to hit North America.
“What better event than the Runoffs to showcase the Ligier JS2 R for the first time in North America?” said Jeff Barrow, Ligier Automotive North America's Director of Business Development. “We are launching the product and starting the production of the Ligier JS2 Rs in our workshops in Denver, North Carolina. This is an exciting moment! The SCCA Road Racing program is very important to Ligier. We are here to support our customers competing as well as work with the SCCA's Club Racing Board and Technical committees in classifying the new Ligier JS2 R. Our goal is to create North American playing fields for this fantastic GT platform!”
For this event, the Ligier JS2 R will wear a special livery. Taking its inspiration from the Ligier JS2 created by Guy Ligier in the 70s, it will bear the number 5 in tribute to the Ligier JS2 that finished second at the 1975 Le Mans 24 Hours with Jean-Louis Lafosse and Guy Chasseuil.
On track, two Ligiers will compete, the Ligier JS49 of Robert Iversen and the Ligier JS F3 driven by F3 Americas driver Kent Vaccaro and managed by his team Momentum Motorsports. This will debut the first Halo-equipped Ligier JS F3 in the Formula Atlantic Class. The Ligier JS F3 was classified by the SCCA to this club racing class shortly after its debut in the 2018 F3 Americas season to generate interest to club-level drivers and maximise additional seat time for young F3 drivers. With the same Honda Performance Development Honda Civic Type R engine and Hankook Tires at club and pro racing level the crossover opportunities are endless.
“We are strong advocates for Road Racing as being an excellent way to enjoy affordable racing as well as a stepping stone in a driver's development,” concluded Jeff Barrow. “We expect to see many more Ligiers running in the SCCA Club and Pro Racing next year”.
