Road to Le Mans, race 2: Top 4 100% Ligier JS P320
Held on the morning of Saturday June 15 as a curtain-raiser to the 92nd edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, the second Road to Le Mans race saw the #29 MV2S Racing Ligier take victory thanks to a flawless strategy. It won ahead of the #97 of COOL Racing and the #20 of High Class Racing. ANS Motorsport and its #6 rounded off this 100% Ligier top 4.
- Second on the grid, the #20 Ligier JS P320 of Jens Reno Moller (High Class Racing) retained this position at the green light, but the race was neutralised a few seconds later for a first lap under Safety Car conditions.
- On the restart, a spectacular battle ensued between five Ligier JS P320s and four teams for sixth place: Team Virage (#59 and #44), Nielsen Racing (#7), Eurointernational (#21) and Team Thor (#77).
- The Safety Car returned to the track on the fourth lap, when the #17 IDEC Sport ended up in the gravel. The competitors then made their mandatory pit stops.
- The #29 Ligier JS P320 of Maximus Mayer (MV2S Racing) and the #5 Ligier JS P320 of Clément Moreno (ANS Motorsport) were the big winners of this neutralisation, occupying the top two places when the race resumed.
- Starting from the back of the grid, the #97 COOL Racing JS P320 made a superb comeback to overtake the #5 ANS Motorsport car. David Droux overtook Clément Moreno on the eighth lap. He was just over three seconds behind Maximus Mayer.
- Tommy Foster (Ligier #20, High Class Racing) snatched third place from Clément Moreno on the final lap. With just a few laps to go, Maximus Mayer went wide, but retained first place by a tiny margin of 0.935. Maximus Mayer, who competed in the Ligier European Series in 2023 at the wheel of the RLR MSport Ligier JS2 R, took his first victory in the Michelin Le Mans Cup and in LMP3.
- The #97 COOL Racing Ligier JS P320 (David Droux / Adrien Chila) finished second. David Droux set the fastest race time in 3:52.363. The #20 of High Class Racing (Tommy Foster / Jens Moller) finished third ahead of the #6 of ANS Motorsport (Clément Moreno / Nicolas Schatz). Four other Ligier teams featured in the top 10: Team Thor (#77, 7th), COOL Racing (#87, 8th), Nielsen Racing (#7, 9th) and MRacing (#13, 10th).
- The #97 COOL Racing Ligier continues to lead the overall team and driver standings, with a 7.5-point advantage over the #20 High Class Racing car.
After a two-month break, the fourth round of the 2024 series will take place at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) from August 23-25.
