Almost 80 Ligiers racing in Europe and in the United States during the same weekend!
15-16 May 2021 – A busy weekend for Ligier Automotive as almost 80 Ligier racing cars were doing battle on the track! A record for the French constructor? With around 450 cars built between 2014 and 2020, it's not rare to see the number of Ligiers involved in racing the same weekend exceeding the 100 mark!
On the programme of the Ligier Automotive teams for the weekend of 15 - 16 May, 76 cars in six championships and seven categories on three circuits in two continents. In Europe, 25 cars were racing on the verdant Red Bull Ring circuit in Austria in the context of the European Le Mans Series and the Ligier European Series with sports prototypes, the Ligier JS P320s and Ligier JS P4s, and GTs, the Ligier JS2 Rs.
In the United States, sports prototypes and single-seaters raced on the Mid-Ohio and Road America circuits in the IMSA Prototype Challenge, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, FR Americas and the U.S. F4 Championship.
Here's the breakdown of this armada of Ligiers that invaded the circuits:
- 11 Ligier JS2 Rs and Ligier JS P4s (Ligier European Series – Red Bull Ring)
- 14 Ligier JS P320s in LMP3 (European Le Mans Series – 4 Hours of the Red Bull Ring)
- 6 Ligier JS P320s in LMP3 (IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship) Mid-Ohio)
- 6 Ligier JS P320s in P3-1 and 1 Ligier JS P3 in P3-2 (IMSA Prototype Challenge (Mid-Ohio)
- 11 Ligier JS F3s (FR Americas – Road America)
- 27 Ligier JS F4s (U.S. F4 Championship – Road America)
The weekend was crowned with success for the French cars with nail-biting battles in the Ligier European Series, FR Americas and the U.S. F4 Championship. The score? 8 podiums out of a possible nine in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, IMSA Prototype Challenge and the European Le Mans Series.
