Sean Creech Motorsport takes pole position in LMP3 for the 24 Hours of Daytona
20 - 22 January - The prologue to the 24 Hours of Daytona, the opening round of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, took place from 20th to 22nd January. Among the five Ligier JS P320s entered, three teams dominated the first four free practice sessions. On Sunday in qualifying, Nicolas Pino in #33 run by Sean Creech Motorsport clinched the first pole position of his career.
• Performance Tech Motorsports'#38 (John DeAngelis, Christopher Allen, Connor Bloum and Cameron Shields) topped the time sheets in free practice 1 in a time of 1:43.486s.
• Andretti Autosport's #36 (Jarett Andretti, Gabby Chaves, Dakota Dickerson and Rasmus Lindh) emerged on top in sessions 2 and 3 with a lap in 1:42.926s, which they then improved to 1:42.653s.
• #33 run by Sean Creech Motorsport (Lance Willsey, Joao Barbosa, Nico Pino and Danny Soufi) finished first in session 4 setting the fastest lap in 1:42.961s.
• Nicolas Pino at the wheel of #33 posted the quickest lap in his category in 1:43.197s from #36 entered by Andretti Autosport which set pole in 2022. It was Sean Creech Motorsport's first-ever pole for the 24 Hours of Daytona and the first for the 18-year-old Chilean driver since the start of his career!
• “This is a special one,” Pino said. “This was my first pole (ever). We have a long race coming ahead – 24 hours. This was a 15-minute qualifying session.”
Thus, the five Ligiers will monopolise the front of the grid in the LMP3 category for Saturday's 24 Hours of Daytona.
